To drain or not to drain!
It is generally not recommended to completely drain the battery of an electric car before recharging it. Most electric car manufacturers recommend keeping the battery charge level above a certain threshold, such as 20% or 30%. This helps to extend the life of the battery and maintain its overall health.
However, it is important to note that the battery of an electric car can still be charged even if it is not completely empty. In fact, it is generally better to charge the battery more frequently and at a lower level, rather than waiting until it is almost empty before recharging it.
There are also some electric car models that have a feature called "range mode," which optimizes the use of the battery to extend its range. This can be useful if you need to maximize the distance you can travel on a single charge, but it may also result in the battery being drained more fully before it is recharged.
In the interest of research, we completely drained the battery of a Mercedes EQC only to see what happens and indeed how to resolve this situation. So, quite predictably, the wheels locked, as a result of loss of power and propulsion. The trick was to depress the brake pedal hard to release the auto-lock, allowing the vehicle to be put into neutral and hence pushed off road and out of the way, to allow built up traffic to flow again. Then to call a recovery truck to tow the vehicle to a charging station. Smooth sailing after that. Rapid charger, allows 0 to 100% in about 90 mins. Coffee and a good news app! Happy days…
