Mercedes Maybach
It is time to surrender to the inevitable. As the door of the Maybach 62 closes with a barely audible power-assisted sigh, you sink back on to a bed of soft leather bliss, reach for a silver goblet of champagne and become vaguely aware of the mellifluous sound of a huge engine stirring into life somewhere in the far away that is the front of the car. This is life according to Maybach, indisputably one of the world’s greatest cars.
A curtained rear window softens the sunshine, Diana Krall entertains with DVD clarity on twin screens and your chauffeur fluidly guides 2.9 tons of 185 mph, more than 20 feet long, 5.5-litre, twin-turbo V12 leviathan that is the Maybach 62, along the Victoria Embankment. Whilst you leave London’s traffic to us, you will be reclining at full stretch on a back seat that is like something out of the first class cabin of a long-haul airliner — only better, and be thinking of, well, to be absolutely frank - money.
The Maybach speaks volumes, yet in understated tones. It is a car that only those who ‘know’ will understand what it truly means. For they alone will know that what just drove past, is the greatest car to have ever been built - without compromise.
